Here is a simple way to geotag your flickr photos. [What is geotagging?]

This page will shortly be updated with easier graphical instructions.

To use these bookmarklets (the links in red below):

• In Firefox: drag the link to an empty spot on your bookmarks toolbar.
• In Safari: same as above.
• In Internet Explorer: Right-click on a bookmarklet and select "Add to Favorites...". You will get a prompt that says "You are adding a link that may not be safe." Choose Yes. In the next box, click "Create in>>" and choose the Links folder.
• You could alternately put them inside a folder in Firefox's Sidebar (or IE's Explorer Bar) to reduce clutter. (firefox screenshot | IE screenshot)

1. Find your photo location via one of the following mapping services:
   Google Maps | Yahoo! Maps | MSN Maps/MapBlast | multimap.com | mapy.cz


2. Use one of these bookmarklets to get your hot fresh geotags:
   • gmaps2geotags (for Google Maps)
   • ymaps2geotags (for Yahoo! Maps)
   • msn2geotags (for MSN Maps/MapBlast)
   • mmap2geotags (for multimap.com - Note to non-US users: multimap.com currently has much more extensive global street coverage than google maps.)
   • mapy2geotags (for mapy.cz)
   
   
3. Paste those geotags exactly as given into a new tag on your flickr photo page (and then refresh the photo page!)



4. (Optional) Next, from the same flickr photo page, use one or more of these bookmarklets to get clean map/satellite links from your new geotags:
   
   • geotags2geosnapper (to get a link to a Geosnapper page)
   • geotags2gmapsat (to get a link to a Google hybrid map)
   • geotags2gmap (to get a link to a Google street map)
   • geotags2msn (to get a link to an MSN street map)
   • geotags2ymap (to get a link to a Yahoo! map)
   • geotags2mmap (to get a link to a multimap.com map)
   • geotags2mapy (to get a link to a mapy.cz map)
   
   
5. (Optional) Paste those links exactly as given somewhere in your photo description.

It's less complicated than I make it sound. Also, if you don't want to clog up your bookmarks toolbar, and you only use one of the mapping services to find your locations, then you just need that one bookmarklet.

Some extra tools: if you can find the location you need on google maps, or on multimaps, but you want to see the location on the other site, you can use these bookmarklets to switch from the one site to the other.

• gmaps2mmap - this will take you from a google maps page to the same global location in multimap.com.
• mmap2gmaps - this will take you from a multimaps.com page to the same global location in google maps.
• mapy2mmap - this will take you from a mapy.cz page to the same global location in multimap.com.
• mmap2mapy - this will take you from a multimap.com page to the same global location in mapy.cz.
